MSI introduces Wind12 U230 Netbook powered by AMD Athlon Neo X2 Dual-Core Processor for Ultrathin Notebooks. The MSI Wind12 U230 comes with 12.1 inch HD Ready display, installed Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and AMD RS780MN + SB710 chipset. Wind 12 U230 supports up to 4GB RAM, up to 320 GB HDD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and comes with installed 1.3 megapixels webcam.

The company claims that AMD’s new platform consumes 60 percent less power than standard notebooks and offers 4-hours of battery life. It also comes with the AMD RS780MN and SB710 chipsets that support HD and DX10 and ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics.

Battery life was a negative point, managing to last for just over three hours. It was also noisy in use, had a highly reflective glossy display and glossy lid prone to fingerprint marks. However, this needs to be measured against a device that has good build quality, a comfortable keyboard and value price point of £399. Retail availability is expected in January.

MSI has launched the X410, preloaded with Windows 7.

A part of the X-Slim series 14″ ultra thin notebook family, the X140 weighs in at just 1.5 kg including the battery and comes in a choice of two elegant colours – piano black and silver.

The X410 comes with AMD’s 2nd Generation Ultrathin Platform. Consuming only 15 W, the processor consumes 40% of the power of common notebook processors. With AMD’s PowerNow!  technology, the system is able to run different applications based on their specific power requirements by automatically adjusting CPU speed and voltage. This results in extended battery life, lowered heat, and a quieter operating environment. The X410 uses the ATI Radeon X1250 graphics card and has internal HDMI video and audio terminals that provide 5 GB of image transfer bandwidth.
