Last trick noted here is actually tricking the phone into overcharging the lithium ion battery which has no built in overhanging protection (the phone does this) so effectively you are reducing the phone battery life considerably as well as creating a battery explosion hazard.

Any basic Google search on the operation of lithium ion batteries and their design will validate this information.
