HTC Launches HD 7

Handset maker HTC today unveiled its Microsoft Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone 'HD7', priced at Rs 29,990 in association with telecom operator Bharti airtel.

"Windows Phone 7 is an entirely fresh mobile experience, on which HTC is excited to be going big," HTC India Country Head Ajay Sharma said in a statement.

Airtel customers will get exclusive data pack to download 2GB data per month for 6 months at Rs 300.

"Combining the strength of the airtel brand and network with the innovation and design of HTC and the great user-interface of Windows Phone 7, we are happy to bring another first for our customers that will take mobile communications to a whole new level," Bharti airtel CMO-Mobile Services Shireesh Joshi said.

HD7 is basically HTC HD2 that was launched in India last year but running Windows Phone 7 this time around instead of Windows Mobile. It has a huge 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 1GHz processor, GPS, Wi-Fi and all the bells and whistles you can expect from a high-end device. The HD7 even comes with a nifty kick stand at the back for watching videos, something that the HD2 did not.

The HD7 is one of the three Windows Phone 7 devices from HTC, the other two being the Mozart, which is essentially the Desire running WP7, and the Trophy, which is HTC's cheapest WP7 handset. We are yet to see other manufacturers such as Samsung and LG launch their WP7 devices in India but with HTC having made their move with the HD7, which will hopefully be followed by the Mozart and the Trophy, we guess it won't be long till we have the full range of WP7 handsets in India from all manufacturers.

The touchscreen phone has a 4.3-inch display, 720p HD video recording and 1 Ghz processor.
