HTC Desire HD Battery Saving Important Tips

The biggest disadvantage of HTC Desire HD is its Screen size, although it is big and pleasing to eyes, but it also eats up battery, If you happen to notice your DHD (Desire HD) battery settings in Menu >> Settings >> About Phone >> Battery, you will notice that display is the main culprit that is eating up the battery more then 50% in some cases more then 75%.

Like its predecessor HTC Desire, HTC DHD can be a battery hog, the tricks that are available for HTC Desire can also be used for HTC DHD.

Some of steps to increase battery life are available in HTC Website as well, here are some of the tips:

1. When not in use, always disable your phone’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPRS.
2. Set the backlight setting to its minimum brightness you can view it. [Menu >> Settings >> Display >> Brightness ] You can also choose Auto brightness to let the phone decide.
3. Always charge the phone using the power adapter since charging through USB uses lower voltage and will take longer to charge.
4. Try uninstalling 3rd party software. Since it is not tested by HTC, there is a risk in impacting your phone’s performance, including battery life.
5. Please check if there are any applications running in the background. Please press MENU on the home screen > Settings > Applications > Running services. You will find all the running applications on this screen and you have an option to stop them by tapping on a running application.
6. You may also check the signal strength in your area. Whenever it gets unstable, the phone will keep searching for a stronger signal. This may also shorten battery life.
7. Try removing widgets that update automatically[ You can Schedule Weather widget to update every 3 hours, and uncheck update when opened, apply similar tweaks for email, twitter, widgets]. You can try to set some of these to manual update to only grab information when activated.

Display Time out, The default value is 1 minute but you can reduce it to as low as 15 sec but 30 seconds would be better.

Key Press Vibration, By default your HTC Incredible vibrates every time you press a key. Turn it off by un-checking the box ‘Vibrate when typing’. Menu >> Settings >> Language & Keyboards >> Touch Input >> Text Input >> Vibrate when typing.

Disable Notifications, If Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Email, App Updates, or many other things are constantly popping notifications, consider turning some of them off as notifications do impact battery performance; This is done in each app.

Old HTC Desire Trick for HTC DHD, To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.
